Science teachers trained in Panjsher

Science teachers trained in Panjsher

CHARIKARinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): As many as 200 science teachers, including 60 females, completed a three-month training course in central Panjsher province on Thursday, an official said.

The teachers learnt physics, biology, mathematics, algebra, geometry and chemistry during the course, Educationinfo-icon Director Zalmay Shaheed told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the programme was aimed at building capacity of teachers, who were trained by six professors from Kabulinfo-icon University. Each trainer was paid about $300 (13,542 afghanis), provided by local traders, he said.

Sayed Wazir, a teacher from Khinj district, characterised the course as useful, both for teachers and students. He suggested such programmes should continue to enhance teachers' capacity.

However, some residents complained their children were weak at science. "My son is an 11th grade student, but he is still unable to solve a simple algebra question," said Ghulam Sayed, a resident of Dara district.

"We are being taught science subjects at the primary level," said Mohammad Rahim, a 10th class student at the Safid Chihra High School district.

"Students are forced to rely on private tuition centres as part of preparations for university entrance test, because schoolteachers could not help them," he said.
