Work on optic-fiber cable launched in Khost
KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Work on putting down a 33-kilometre optic-fiber cable between the provincial capital and Ghulam Khan dry port was launched on Thursday in southeastern Khost province.
The optic-fiber cable would be extended to the port near the Pakistan border in 15 months at a total cost of $400,000 funded through the World
Bank (WB), Khost Governor Hukam Khan Habibi told Pajhwok Afghan News.
About the cable running to Pakistan, Habibi said “the project is very important for Afghanistan as it would improve internet services here.”
For better services of the link, a site on 600 square metres of land would be established to extend the internet services to other provinces though the link to Pakistan, Khost Telecommunication and Information Technology director Eng. Gul Habib Shah said.
“It is a crucial step to improve internet services and we step by step are availing facilities currently urgently needed,” he said.
Afghanistan’s optic-fiber line is connected with Pakistan through Torkham and Spin Boldak dry ports, with Iran through Islam Qala dry port, with Turkmenistan through Torghandi and Aaqnina dry ports, with Uzbekistan though Heratan dry port and with Tajikistan trough Sher Khan dry ports.
The optic fiber project in Khost would be completed in near future, Habib Shah said.
