NATO blitz kills 11 insurgents in Paktika

SHARAN/GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Eleven insurgents were killed in a NATOinfo-icon airstrike in southeastern Paktika province and elsewhere three civilians were wounded in a mortar fire incident blamed on security forces in southern Ghazni province, officials said on Saturday.

Nabiullah Pirkhel, Paktika governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News foreign forces carried out airstrikes in Dad Gul and Jalal Shah localities of Gomal district, killing 11 insurgents.

Gulab Jan, a resident of the district, confirmed the airstrikes that he said targeted insurgents’ positions.

In Ghazni, three civilians were wounded after security forces fired a mortar shell aimed at Talibaninfo-icon militants in Dih Yak district.

Karimullah Amiri, the town’s administrative chief, said security forces fire the mortar after coming under attack from Taliban at a check-post.

The injured have been shifted to hospital.

In southern Helmand province, intelligence officials have arrested four alleged kidnappers.

A statement from the National Directorate f Security (NDSinfo-icon) said the detained individuals had abducted a child and a boy and had demanded ransom money from their families.

But NDS personnel rescued the children and detained their kidnappers, the statement said.
