Sherpao wants QCG to facilitate Afghan peace talks

Sherpao wants QCG to facilitate Afghan peace talks

Apr 04, 2016 - 09:16

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A senior Pakistaninfo-icon politician has called on international and regional powers to intensify efforts for bringing peace and stability to Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Addressing a news conference on Sunday, the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP)chief asked the Quadrilateral Coordination Group(QCG) to facilitate dialogue between the Afghan government and Talibaninfo-icon.

Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao hailed the ongoing reform process in the tribal region near the Afghanistan border as a good step to bring the militancy-hit areas into the national mainstream.

Comprised of the United States, China, Afghanistan and Pakistan, the group has held several meetings in Islamabad and Kabulinfo-icon on how to pave the ground for peace negotiations.

Despite the QCG’s optimism about bringing the two sides to the negotiating table, the Taliban have refused so far to talk to the Ashraf Ghani administration as long as their demands were not met.
