May 04, 2016 - 15:13

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): A policewoman was shot dead by armed motorcyclists in the capital of southern Kandahar province on Wednesday, an official said.

The shooting took place near the Zahir Shahee High School in Kandahar City around 12:30pm, a security official wishing anonymity told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The source identified the policewoman as Nasreen who was serving in Arghandab district. She was walking to her home when came under attack.

The attackers managed to flee, the official said. No groups so far claimed responsibility for the shooting.

Abdul Salam, a resident of the area, said he heard gunfire in his home. “I came out and saw the woman lying on the road,” he added.

In recent weeks, it is the second attack on a policewoman in Kandahar City, where the Talibaninfo-icon movement emerged decades ago.
