TIRINKOT/PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): At least eight policemen defected to the Talibaninfo-icon in Charchinu district of central Uruzgan province, an official said on Saturday.

The Charchiny district police chief, 1st Lt. Rahimullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News the eight policemen, who performed duty at separate localities, had joined the rebels along with their weapons on Monday.

Rahimullah said an investigation into the defections had been launched.

The Taliban have said nothing about the policemen joining their ranks.
