Bodies of 10 kidnapped passengers found; 18 still missing

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok):Ten passengers have been found dead while 18 others are still missing after militants stopped their vehicles on main highway on the outskirts of the capital of northern Kunduz province, an official said on Tuesday.

Acting Police Chief Col. Masomi Safi said the abducted passengers had been transferred to Chardara district and the operation had been launched to rescue them.

Saifuddin Saes, head of the Afghanistaninfo-icon civil societyinfo-icon claimed soldiers were among the 12 dead individuals.

The armed men kept 18 passengers with them and released others, while the bodies of ten people found in the area. 

Hidayatullah Faqiryar, administrative chieffor Aliabad district, told Pajhwok Afghan News the rebels stopped several passenger vehicles at around 2:00am in Arzaq Angor Bagh locality and took away 220 passengers with them.

 He said the insurgents had established a check-point and stopped passenger coaches. The gunmen seized 40 passengers and released the rest, the official added. The bodies of 10people, alleged killed by the captors, have been found in the area.

Faqiryar said a search operation had been launched to rescue the passengers. The militants have not yet commented on the issue.
