Thousands mourn Wardak’s death in Kabul

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Thousands of people mourned the death of a Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon or lower house of parliament member from Kabul in the central capital on Tuesday, two days after the lawmaker was killed in a landmine blast near his home.

The slain MP, Sher Wali Wardak, was killed when the bomb which had been planted near his home in Kabul went off. Wardak was brother of former educationinfo-icon minister Farooq Wardak. The Talibaninfo-icon had claimed responsibility for his killing.

Thousands of people on Tuesday attended a condolence reference for Wardak at the Eid Gah mosqueinfo-icon. President Ashraf Ghani, Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah, the Chief Justice, Cabinet ministers, parliamentarians and a number of foreign diplomat were in attendance.

The fateha was also attended by former president Hamid Karzai, family members of Wardak, former ministers, members of the Hezb-i-Islamic party and elders from central Maidan Wardak province.

A statement from the Presidential Palace said President Ghani shared his grief and heart-felt condolences with family of Wardak, his colleagues and the people of Maidan Wardak.

The president prayed to Allah Almighty to place the departed soul in Heaven and grant courage and fortitude to the bereaved family.

A statement from former president Karzai’s office said the former president extended his condolences to the family and friends of Wardak and urged a chosen place for his soul in the Heaven.
