Policemen among 17 hurt in Paktika twin blasts

SHARAN (Pajhwok): At least 15 civilians and two policemen were wounded in two separate explosions in Sharan, the capital of southeastern Paktika province on Wednesday, eyewitnesses and officials said.

Sher Ahmad, An eyewitness, told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosions took place between Shahidan square and provincial civil hospital of Sharan around 9:00am.

He said the first incident was a hand grenade attack and the second was a landmine that exploded when people gathered for helping the injured of the first blast.

He added 17 people including 15 civilians and two policemen were wounded in the twin explosions.

Paktika Civil Hospital Director Chenar Gul Seddiqi, confirmed receiving 11 wounded people from the first incident.

He said the healthinfo-icon condition of two policemen and three civilians injured in the incident was critical and sent to Kabulinfo-icon hospitals for better treatment.

However, an official of the hospital who wished to go unnamed said that 17 people including eight of them municipal cleaners shifted from the incidents area to the hospital for treatment.

Provincial deputy police chief, Abdur Rauf Massoud, said that two policemen and six civilians were injured in Sharan blasts. He refused to provide more details about the incidents.

No groups have claimed responsibility for the attacks.
