16 infiltrating Taliban killed in Ghazni clash

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Sixteen Talibaninfo-icon militants, including a notorious commander, were killed and five others wounded during in a clash with security forces in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Wednesday.

Provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash occurred after dozens of insurgents tried to sneak from Ab Band district into Maqur district.

The clash in Bazgo locality of Ab Band district left 16 militants dead including commander Mullahinfo-icon Rehan and five others wounded.

Uprising members also joined the security forces during the clash, Amarkhel said, adding that six dead bodies of the Taliban remained on the battleground.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the incident, but their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid tweeted the fighters had attacked security check-posts in Dah-Yak district.

Taliban militants hold sway in several areas of Ghazni province, one of the most unstable.
