Nov 30, 2016 - 17:20

SHARAN (Pajhwok): Police on Wednesday claimed arresting a would-be suicide bomber before he could reach his target in southeastern Paktika province.

Provincial police chief, Col. Khalilullah Ziayi, told Pajhwok Afghan News the alleged bomber was arrested in Sharan city, the provincial capital, on Tuesday night.

He said the bomber had the plan to attack special forces’ commander Azizullah Karwan.

Karwan said the suicide bomber was chased and arrested along with a suicide vest from a hotel in Sharan city.

Suicide attacks in the past too had been thwarted with support of local people, he said.

The alleged bomber, Abdul Bari, a resident of Pakita province, told reporters he had received suicide attack training in Pakistaninfo-icon. “I came to Sharan to attack Azizullah Karwan convoy,” he said.

Previous such attempts on Karwan life are claimed to be neutralized before approaching him.
