7 school buildings constructed in Samangan

AIBAK/FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Construction work on seven school buildings has been completed with financial support from the Swedish Committee for Afghanistaninfo-icon (SCA) in northern Samangan province.

While in northeastern Badakhshan province, construction work on a building for the information and culture department began on Thursday.

Eng. Mohammad Fahim Wahidi, rural development projects head at SCA in Samangan, said two school buildings were constructed in Baloch and Surkh Kotal villages of Dara-i-Suf Payeen and three buildings in Surkh Kotal, Alikhel and Hashtliz villages.

The remaining two school buildings having volleyball grounds were constructed in Zahrabi and Dara-i-Zhwandon villages in Aibak City, the provincial capital, Whidi said.

Samangan educationinfo-icon director, Firozuddin Saqib, said students of some of the schools had been studying in the open and three of the schools lacked libraries and laboratories.

In overall 3,600 students including boys and girls would benefit from the SCA projects in Samangan that cost 32 million afghanis, he said.

He added 119,000 students were studying in 294 schools of Samangan where only 163 of schools had buildings. Saqib said construction work on 11 other schools in Samangan was underway.

Governor Mohammad Hasham Zari, who also participated the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed school buildings, thanked the SCA and urged more such projects in Samangan.

He said security situation in the province was stable and local officials were ready to support SCA projects.

In Badakhshan, the foundation stone for a new building for the information and culture department building was laid on Thursday.

Badakhshan information and culture director, Sher Ali Qasemi, said the two-storey building would be constructed on 364 square meters land and would have 14 rooms and eight bathrooms. The structure would cost 21 million afghanis and would complete in one year.
