Protest held against ACB officials for ignoring key players

Dec 10, 2016 - 13:49

KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): Hundreds of residents in southern Kandahar province have staged a protest rally against the Afghanistaninfo-icon Cricket Board (ACB) officials for what they called an improper behavior towards players.

The enraged protestors chanted slogans against a number of ACB officials and accused them of corruption. The cricket fans asked President Ashraf Ghani to dismiss some of the ACB’s officials and investigate mismanagement and corruption related issues in the board.

Kandaharis protested at a time when a number of cricket players such as Shapoor Zadran and Shafiqullah Shafaq accused ACB as a corruption institution during their recent chats with media. The players accused the board of ignoring them and scraping their central contract.

Ghawsuddin Frotan, One of the protestors, told Pajhwok Afghan News the demonstration was aimed at condemning the misbehavior of ACB towards cricket players.

He said the ACB had ignored some key players who earned honor and fame for the country during recent matches and it was why the players were disappointed and unhappy with the behavior of the board officials.

Another protestor, Eng. Kamal Hashimi, asked the president to investigate the mistreatment towards cricket players and help bring back the former heroes back to the national squad. They also demanded the appointment of qualified people in ACB.

ACB Director Naseem Danish and Executive Director Shafiq Stanikzai were recently critisised not only by the players but people were also not happy with the top officials of the board and often demanded their removal.
