PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Hundreds of Pakistani refugee families have returned from Afghanistaninfo-icon to North Waziristan, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

On Monday, 200 families entered Waziristan through the Ghulam Khan check-post, where the political administration has set up a registration point for the returnees.

Dawn quoted unnamed officials as saying the returning families, after the registration, would move to the Bakakhel camp in Bannu district being repatriated to their native areas.

Around 2,000 families, who had fled to Afghanistan as a result of a military offensive in the restive region, will be repatriated till Jan 26, the newspaper added.

In coordination with UN agencies, Afghanistan set up a camp for them in southeastern Khost province. Kabulinfo-icon says more than 200,000 tribal people have been displaced to Afghanistan by the military operation in Waziristan.

Families from Datakhel, Lowara Mandi, Madakhel, Hamzoni, Paikhel, Muhammadkhel and Derpakhel areas have sought refuge in the neighbouring country.
