Joint chamber wants hurdles to transit trade removed

Joint chamber wants hurdles to transit trade removed

Jan 28, 2017 - 08:52

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry has asked Islamabad and Kabulinfo-icon to eliminated impediments to the Afghan transit trade (ATT).

At a meeting here on Friday, leaders of the Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industries urged the governments to sort out differences to facilitate business communities.

Speaking at the meeting of the Pak-Afghan Liaison Committee, the chamber’s senior vice-president, Ziaul Haq Sarhadi, stressed the removal of reservations of the business community about transit trade.

Sarhadi believed that transit trade through Bandar Abbas and Chahbahar could be attracted to Pakistani ports through facilitating the business communities of both countries.

Political issues were affecting both Afghan transit trade and bilateral commerce, he said, adding that the business community was facing problems due to non-review of the agreement for the last six years.

The meeting called for a meeting to review the new Afghan transit trade agreement as soon as possible. Stakeholders from both countries were asked to take measures for the resolution of problems.
