MoD plans recruiting more women into army

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): New initiatives are on the cards to recruit more womeninfo-icon into the Afghan National Army (ANA), a Ministry of Defence (MoD) official has said.

The ministry plans to raise the proportion of women in the army from the current four percent to 10 percent and offer them inducements, including a special salary scale.

In an interview with the news agency AFP, the ministry’s deputy spokesman said: "At this stage, we have 1,575 Afghan women in our army ranks, it is mere three to four percent.”

Mohammad Radmanesh said 400 female recruits were presently under training at defence ministry institutions.
