Delhi police arrest Afghan trickster for duping women

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok):  A flamboyant Afghan citizen has been detained in New Delhi on charges of cheating several womeninfo-icon out of cash and other valuables, Indian media reported.

Based on a complaint from an American woman, the Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested Hameedullah for sexually exploiting her and defrauding her of $86,000. The imposter befriended her on social media.

The Times of India reported the 34-year-old man used luxury cars, frequented high-end hotels and night clubs to charm women, whom he later sexually exploited.

In case of threat from his targets to expose him, the smart Afghan would blackmail them by saying he would tell the authorities that they had terror links in his war-torn country.

Posing as MK Fahim, the complainant became friends with the American on Facebook. He claimed having fallen in love with her and wanted to tie the knot with her.

Hameedullah allegedly went as far as to make fake marriage documents, mentioning the complainant as his lawful wife, the newspaper quoted a senior police officer as saying.

Hameedullah duped the complainant into transferring $86,000 to an account in Afghanistaninfo-icon. Later, he received the money in India through alternative channels, the daily reported.

A police team apprehended Hameedullah near a five-star hotel and recovered a sedan car, two expensive mobile phones, a laptop and documents of the property he had purchased.

On an Afghan passport, Hameedullah arrived in India in July 2011 on a tourist visa, which was later converted into medical visa. “He is suspected to be involved in more such cases…” one officer said.

Police suspect he has duped more than a dozen women. The complainant has reportedly furnished a lot of details. He lived in an apartment in Noida and had an office in Karol Bagh.
