Highway cop shoots dead truck driver in Farah

Feb 18, 2017 - 21:26

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): A police officer shot and killed a truck driver allegedly on refusing to pay bribe money on the Farah-Helmand highway in western Farah province, an official said on Saturday.

The incident took place in Tot Wa Chakab area of Bala Buluk district on Friday afternoon, the governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Mohammad Naser Mahri said the highway police signaled a truck en route to Kabulinfo-icon from neighboring Herat province to stop and asked its driver, Naqibullah, to pay money, but the driver refused.

As a verbal clash erupted between the driver and the police, one policeman opened fire at the driver and killed him.

Mahri said the policeman had been detained and was currently under investigation with the provincial crime branch.
