Five of a family gunned down in Herat

Feb 24, 2017 - 17:19

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A man shot dead five members of a family in what appeared to be a family dispute in western Herat province on Friday, an official said.

Herat police spokesman Abdul Ahad Walizada said the incident took place in the afternoon behind the Khwaja Abdullah Ansari shrine.

He said police had cordoned off the area and the attacker had been arrested with an AK-47 assault rifle.  He said initial investigation showed the incident resulted from an aggressive family dispute.

“The dead included the accused father in law, his three sons and the killer’s son in law. The victims were 20 to 45 years old,” the police spokesman said.

Civil hospital spokesman Mohammad Rafique Sherazai confirmed receiving five dead bodies and an injured person at the hospital. He said the injured person’s condition was critical.
