PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistaninfo-icon has closed again the Torkham and Chaman border crossings with Afghanistaninfo-icon, which were kept open for two days on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Officials said more than 51,000 Afghans and 4,900 Pakistanis returned home during the last two days. Only those with valid travel documents were allowed to cross the border.

In collaboration with the political administration, the Frontier Corps put in place elaborate security and immigration arrangements to facilitate smooth cross-border movement at Torkham.

In Chaman, 20,870 Afghans and 2,631 Pakistanis returned home. Over the past two days, 27,718 Afghans went back to their country while 4,277 Pakistanis came to Chaman.

The border crossings were slammed shut by Pakistan after a series of deadly bombings in Lahore, Sehwan Sharif, Charsadda and elsewhere. More than 100 people were killed and many more wounded.

Both border crossings were closed Wednesday evening for an indefinite period of time, a senior security official told Pajhwok Afghan News. Long queues of trucks loaded with Afghan transit goods are still parked on the Pakistani side.
