PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The border closure has deprived nine Afghan students enrolled in Torkham schools of appearing in their annual matriculation examination that began on Wednesday.

The Afghans are students of two public schools in the Bacha Mena area of Torkham. Since the border was shut on February 17, all Afghan students have been absent as they have been entry into Pakistaninfo-icon.

Hailing from the border areas of Afghanistaninfo-icon, the students come to the Torkham-based schools due to the absence of good educationinfo-icon facilities in their villages.

School officials told a Pakistani newspaper the border blockade had the future of Afghan students at stake. The commandant of Khyber Rifles has been asked for allowing the students to sit the exams.
