11 Afghans among 28 arrested in Punjab raids

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Suspected terrorists, including Afghan citizens and members of a outlawed militant groups, have been detained in search operations in Pakistaninfo-icon’s Punjab province.

The army’s media wing said Punjab Rangers, police and intelligence agents conducted joint operations in Dera Ghazi Khan, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Attock, Hassanabdal, Narowal, Shakargarh, Rajanpur and Islamabad.

At least 26 suspected terrorists, including 11 Afghans, were detained during the raids, which also led to the seizure of weapons, ammunition, computers, improvised explosive devices (IED) and suicide jacket material.

A brief statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the suspects were taken to undisclosed locations for interrogations.

Separately, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police claimed arrested two members of the Tehreek-i-Talibaninfo-icon Pakistan (TTP) in the garrison city of Rawalpindi. The detainees were identified as Muhammad Arif and Ashfaq Ahmad.

A kilogram of explosive material, six-foot Primacord, four detonators, one hand grenade and one IED were recovered from their custody. Initial investigations revealed the suspects planned attacks on law-enforcement personnel.
