Border closure triggers angry protest in Chaman

Border closure triggers angry protest in Chaman

Mar 20, 2017 - 12:57

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Life in the Chaman town of Pakistaninfo-icon’s southwestern Balochistan province came to a standstill on Sunday when traders protested against the closure of the border.

In response to a call from Tajir Alliance, all bazaars, shopping centres, business establishments and shops across the district remained shut. Markets and roads wore a deserted look.

Since the border was unilaterally sealed on Feb. 17, all business activities, including import and export and Afghan transit trade, have been suspended.

Protesting shopkeepers and traders called for the immediate reopening of the Durand Lineinfo-icon. The business community said it could not think of supporting terrorism or other illegal acts.
