PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The reopening of the border between Pakistaninfo-icon and Afghanistaninfo-icon would ease tension between the neighbours, political and business leaders hope.

While welcoming the reopening of the border, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Khan Sherpao said the move would improve ties between the two countries.

In a statement here on Tuesday, the former interior minister believed that sealing the border was not a durable solution to the issue of terrorism as it brought miseries to the peoples and traders.

The QWP chief suggested trust deficit be removed among peoples, traders, governments and establishments of both countries so that confidence could be restored.

Also on Tuesday, Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry Senior Vice President Ziaul Haq Sarhadi appreciated the reopening of the border and said that it was the need of the hour.

Only eight trucks, whose drivers possessed visas and passports, crossed into Afghanistan yesterday, he said, adding that those without travel documents were not allowed to cross the border.

Malik Sohni, the All Pakistan Agricultural Produce Traders Federation president, also welcomed the resumption of transport between the two countries as a good omen for the future of the region.
