KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Afghan security forces may need support from US troops in the fight against Talibaninfo-icon for another three years, says a top diplomat of the war-devastated country.

In an interview published on Wednesday, Afghanistaninfo-icon’s ambassador to the US said his country would be in a position to combat the militants without support from foreign troops by 2020.

Hamdullah Mohib told The USA Today: “By 2020 our security forces will be able to have what they need to carry on the fight on their own for the most part.”

Although the Islamic State (Daesh) has made inroads in different parts of the country, particularly in eastern and central Afghanistan, the group is not perceived as a major security threat.

The nascent Afghan Air Force (AAF) was becoming more self-reliant, the ambassador noted, saying would like to double the number of its special operations commandos, which currently stands at 11,700.
