Pakistani parliamentarians meet Ghani, Karzai

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok):  The Afghan government on Sunday said the visit of a Pakistani parliamentary delegation to Kabul would help create trust between the two countries. 

Pakistaninfo-icon’s National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, heading a parliamentary delegation, arrived in Kabul on Saturday on a two-day official visit.  Wolesi Jirga Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi and Senate Chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar received the team.

According to a statement from the Presidential Palace, the Pakistani parliamentary delegation met President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday.

The national unity government welcomed the visit of the Pakistani parliamentary delegation to Afghanistaninfo-icon and considered it a favorable opportunity for mutual understanding and trust.

The statement said the Afghan government expected these meetings would help develop trust and remove mistrust between the neighbours.

The statement said the national unity government welcomed good opinion of the Pakistan parliamentary delegation about cooperation between the people of the two countries.

The government said: "We hope this visit will help implement the commitments of Pakistani government towards bilateral and multilateral meetings for the purpose of ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan.”

Separately, the delegation also met former president Hamid Karzai. A statement from Karzai office said the speaker of the national assembly of Pakistan handed over a letter from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to Hamid Karzai.

The letter condemned the terrorist attack on the 209 Shaheen Military Corps base in Balkh province expressed condolences. The prime minister also invited Hamid Karzai to visit Pakistan. 

The invitation was accepted by the former president and assured he would visit Pakistan at a convenient time for improvement of relations between the two countries.

Karzai thanked the people of Pakistan for their hospitality during the era of jihadinfo-icon and expressed hope that both countries would fight a real war against terrorism and extremism.

He said the bad situation in Afghanistan had a direct impact on the situation in Pakistan and the bad situation in Pakistan deteriorated the situation in Afghanistan.

“Therefore every possible way for good relations and peace between the two countries should be used and this aim can be achieved by combating terrorism.
