7 rebels killed, 9 wounded in Ghazni battle

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): At least seven Talibaninfo-icon militants were killed and nine others wounded in a predawn clash with security forces in southern Ghazni province, security officials said on Thursday.

Ghazni police chief Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News Taliban militants stormed security posts in Waghez district before dawn.

The ensuing clash continued for an hour, leaving seven attackers dead and 10 others wounded, Amarkhel said.

A local resident named Abdul Bari told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash between Taliban and security forces erupted around 3am.

He said: “The clashes were close to our home. Taliban were calling  on their collogues to advance, defeat them.” Light and heavy weapons were used in the clashes, severally terrifying children, Abdul Bari added.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the clashes in Waghez district and said only one fighter was wounded while security forces sustained heavy casualties.

Clashes between security forces and the Taliban have recently increased in Ghazni.
