LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): One civilian was killed and four others wounded when a roadside bomb hit a vehicle in southern Helmand province on Wednesday, an official said.

Omar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place in Chahar Gul Pamp area on Kandahar-Helmand highway around 5am early today morning.

He said one civilian was killed and four others wounded in the incident. “The victims were butchers and were traveling in a Mazda model vehicle when struck by a landmine,” he said.

The injured were evacuated to a local hospital and their condition is said to be stable, Zwak added.

A statement from the governor’s house received by Pajhwok said that the roadside bomb was planted by Talibaninfo-icon insurgents.

Taliban usually plant bombs on highways and target civilians, the source said.

There was no word about the incident from Taliban.

Helmand is one of the most unstable provinces of Afghanistaninfo-icon where currently six of 13 districts are under the Taliban control.
