JIA stands for horizontal power sharing: Rabbani

JIA stands for horizontal power sharing: Rabbani

May 18, 2017 - 18:11

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Jamiat-i-Islamiinfo-icon Afghanistaninfo-icon (JIA) party on Thursday said political reform and horizontal distribution of power were possible in a parliamentary system.

Salahuddin Rabbani, JIA leader and acting foreigner minister, told this to a gathering observing the fourth death anniversary of Mohammad Rassoul Mohsini, former Baghlan provincial council head.

Rabbani said social justice and people’s partnership in shaping their destiny were among main goals of the party.

The JIA was preserving societyinfo-icon’s principles against communist ideas and was fighting against despotism since it was founded, he said.

“The gains in the fight against terrorism and promoting democracy are not enough for us and that’s we are seeking reforms in political system and want horizontal power sharing,” he said.

The JIA believed political system reforms and horizontal distribution of power were only possibly in parliamentary system as central systems could not respond in nascent democracies, he said.

“The JIA and its allies in the previous elections were able to mobilize people for achieving this goal, we also took steps for horizontal distribution of power and now we believe this primary step of amending the constitution could be taken through a Loya Jirgainfo-icon,” he said.

Rabbani also said the JIA supported every step taken towards ending the ongoing war and would back all efforts at ensuring peace in Afghanistan.

“When we emphasize on a fair peace process, it does not mean we are against peace, but we mean we should not lose the achievements by an unjust peace deal,” he said.
