KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Meshrano Jirgainfo-icon or upper house of parliament has stopped paying salary to Sibghatullah Mujaddedi after a Pajhwok Afghan News report said the senator had pocketed millions of afghanis in salaries and privileges in absentia.

The Pajhwok report published on May 11 said, Mujaddedi, also a former president, received 23 million afghanis as his own, four bodyguards and a driver salary over the past seven years despite not attending any session of the house.

Meshrano Jirga chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar told today’s session that Mujaddedi had a dozen times requested to resign, but neither the former president nor the current one had approved his resignation.

“Hamid Karzai and Ashraf Ghani had said that Mujaddedi is a jihadi leader and a respected person for Afghanistaninfo-icon, he should be kept as member of the house even if he is absent,” he said. He said the Meshrano Jirga had stopped paying salary to the senator, his bodyguards and drivers in future.

Dr. Faisal Sami, Meshrano Jirga deputy secretary, said every member of parliament was paid 200,000 afghanis in monthly salary and another 72,000 afghanis for his/her driver, four bodyguards and other expenses.
