KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin have discussed regional issues, including the security situation in Afghanistaninfo-icon, a media report said on Wednesday.

At a meeting in Moscow, Xi and Putin expressed worries over the expansion of extremist and terrorist groups such as the Islamic State in the war-torn South Asian country, the report said.

Moscow commended Beijing’s shuttle diplomacy with Islamabad and Kabul, noting the move had helped ease tensions between the two neighbours and promote reconciliation in Afghanistan.

The two leaders also talked about the bleak situation in Syria, Korean peninsula, Europe and Asia-Pacific. They agreed on a diplomatic push to defuse tensions in the region.
