KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): More checkpoints have been established in different parts of the capital city to boost security, the acting police chief said on Thursday.

Lt. Gen. Mohammad Salem Ihsas told reporters 323 alleged criminals had been arrested in connection with criminal activities in the past one month.

“Police have set up checkpoints in the diplomatic district of the city, where vehicles are thoroughly checked” he said.

Senior officials including district police chiefs and unit commanders have been transferred to the province in line with the interior minister’s order.

He said security scanners had been installed at two gates to the city and two more would be set up soon to improve the security situation.

Gen. Ihsas added 323 criminals had been arrested in 196 different cases in the past one month on murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and street crime charges.

Police also recovered a huge quantity of drugs in 64 raids. Heroin, opium, hashish, sheesha and alcoholic drinks were seized during the raids.
