Abu Dhabi funding $326m projects in Afghanistan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Abu Dhabi government has given Afghanistaninfo-icon grants and concessionary loans of $26 million for 18 development projects in the war-torn country, a news report said on Saturday.

The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) said in report the funding spanned crucial sectors, such as agricultureinfo-icon, housing, energy, transport, industry and healthinfo-icon, as well as social services.

According to TradeArabia, ADFD’s country report marking Afghanistan’s Independence Day said the 18 sustainable development projects prioritised economic growth and better living standards.

Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, director general of ADFD, said: “Under the strategic guidance of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy prime minister, the Fund is currently a key partner of the Afghan government in advancing and supporting sustainable economic and social development.

“In cooperation with regional and international institutions, ADFD is proud to spearhead this noble march to extend financial assistance for the greater good of the Afghan people.

“Over a time span of four decades, the Fund has significantly contributed to Afghan societyinfo-icon through investments in sustainable infrastructure projects that benefit all citizens,” he added.
