Bajwa assures NATO, Afghan forces of cooperation

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Pakistaninfo-icon army chief has assured US-led coalition forces in Afghanistaninfo-icon and the Afghan security personnel of all possible cooperation for peace in the region.

Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Bajwa held out the assurance at a meeting with a visiting US military delegation led by Commander of Central Command (Centcom) Gen Joseph Votel.

At the meeting, Gen. Bajwa was assisted by Inter-Services Intelligence chief Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar, Director General of Military Operations Maj. Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza and other generals.

The Inter-Services Public Relations quoted the army chief as reiterating his commitment to work in close coordination with Afghan security forces and US-led Resolute Support Mission for improved security in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region”.

Gen Bajwa dispelled the impression of a selective fight against terrorists and noted: “Pakistan has undertaken operations against terrorists of all hue and colour”.

No other country had a greater interest in peace in Afghanistan than Pakistan, he said, adding Islamabad attached a lot of importance to its relations with Washington, particularly their security cooperation aspect.

The army chief said Pakistan only expected the US to be more respectful towards and acknowledge its sacrifices in the campaign against terrorism.
