Sep 06, 2017 - 21:38

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A suicide bomber rammed his explosives-packed motorcycle into one of the gates of the airbase in Bagram district of central Parwan province on Wednesday.

The attack took place at the prestigious airfield’s southern gate at about 5:40pm, the spokesperson for the provincial governor, Waheeda Shahkar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

She said the attacker targeted a convoy of the foreign troops at the third gate, but it was not immediately known if there were any casualties.

However, a security official, who declined to be identified, said at least four Afghan civilians were killed in the suicide attack.

He said the injured had been sent to the medical facility at the base.

The NATOinfo-icon Resolute Support Mission in a statement confirmed the attack and said the injured civilians were being treated at the hospital on the base.

The Talibaninfo-icon claimed credit for the attack that comes a day after the US military airdropped leaflets containing an image high offensive to Muslims.

On Wednesday, the US army apologized for airdropping the provocative leaflets.
