Turkish president offers mediation between Afghanistan, Pakistan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has offered to mediate between Afghanistaninfo-icon and Pakistaninfo-icon and help them restore bilateral ties, the Presidential Palace said on Sunday.

During a meeting with President Ashraf Ghani in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, the Turkish president said he was ready to play his role in rehabilitation between the neighbors.

President Ghani thanked his Turkish counterpart for his support in different areas, including the Afghan-led peace process. He stressed the need for further consolidation of bilateral ties.

The president said Afghanistan desired cordial relations with Pakistan and was ready for talks on different issues of mutual interest.

Ghani termed terrorism a huge threat for the region and demanded joint efforts to it from the region. The Turkish leader hailed the new US policy for Afghanistan and reaffirmed commitment to future cooperation with the war-torn country.
