Afghan, Pak, US military officials meet in Kabul

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Afghan, US and Pakistani military officials held talks on countering Daesh militants along the Durand Lineinfo-icon, an official said on Thursday.

Defence Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Dawlat Waziri told Pajhwok Afghan News that the tripartite meeting was held on Wednesday and was attended by major generals from the three sides.

He said the Afghan side raised the issues of Pakistani rocket shelling into eastern Kunar province and the fencing of the Durand Line and demanded the Pakistani side to stop these measures.

Waziri said the Pakistani side presented their arguments and said fencing of the Durand Line helped counter-terrorism efforts. The Pakistani side had never honored their previous pledges regarding counter-terrorism cooperation, he said.

Waziri said the tripartite meeting followed a bilateral meeting between Afghanistaninfo-icon and Pakistani military delegations.

The Pakistani military’s media wing ISPR said Pak-Afg-US counter Daesh and Pak-Afghan bilateral military cooperation meetings were held at the Ministry of Defence in Kabul.

A six member high level Pakistaninfo-icon military delegation headed by DGMO Pakistan Army Major General Sahir Shamshad Mirza participated in the meetings.

The participants re-affirmed their resolve to continue fight against the common threat of terrorism. Areas of mutual security interests and concerns were deliberated upon during the interaction.

The three sides expressed their commitment to eliminating Daesh from the region through information sharing, complementary efforts and enhanced cooperation.

In the Pak- Afghan bilateral meeting, important issues linked to cross border firing and attacks, counter terrorism, coordinated actions on respective side along Pak-Afghan border and detainees exchange were discussed.

Both sides agreed to make progress in line with the commitments made at recent high level meetings and formulate an action plan which will contribute towards improving security along the Pak-Afghan border through enhanced cooperation.
