CEO links economic uplift to agriculture

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah on Thursday said the country’s economic development was linked to agricultureinfo-icon, asking entrepreneurs to invest in the sector for being significant.

Abdullah told a gathering here that many investment opportunities existed in agriculture to gain somehow self-sufficiency.

He said supporting the vital sector of agriculture and agricultural products was the government’s priority and utilization domestic products should be promoted among people.

The CEO thanked investors who despite having the opportunity to invest outside the country took the risk of investing in different spheres inside the country.” Development couldn’t be achieved without daring threats.”

Abdullah dubbed the gathering as a guide for the government and the private sector in enabling them to devise plans to standardize and improve the quality of agriculture products.

Abdullah assured of efforts at overcoming issues and challenges in trade and transit of agricultural products with neighboring countries.

Ha called as government’s responsibilities the provision of land, management of irrigation water, encouragement of production, facilitating agriculture loans and finding markets for products inside and outside the country.

Abdullah, while referring to the investment in cultivation and production of saffron, medical herbs, dried fruits in the country, said recently Afghanistaninfo-icon’s agriculture products found their way to European markets, thanks to efforts by farmers and investors.

He said over the past five years attention to the agricultural development of Afghanistan had enhanced from the Afghan government, international organizations such as USAIDinfo-icon and aid-giving countries.

Asadullah Zamir, the minister of agriculture, irrigation, and livestock, also spoke on the occasion, saying the unity government had considerable achievements since its coming into power about two and a half years back. He termed some of the gains as much more in comparison to the past 10 years.

He mentioned establishment of 2,650 cold storages, 180 poultry farms, 320 irrigation networks, 941 water reservoirs and others as some of the achievements by his ministry.

Humayun Rasa, minister of commerce and industries, said a significant part of the gross national income came from the agricultural sector and his ministry was making efforts at providing proper environmentinfo-icon for investment.

An exhibition of agricultural products was opened on the sidelines of the conference. The CEO conferred appreciation letters on seven huge and successful agriculture companies.
