4 police killed, 2 posts captured by Taliban in Orgun district

SHARAN (Pajhwok): At least four policemen have been killed, seven others wounded and two security posts captured by Talibaninfo-icon in the Orgun district of northeastern Paktika province, officials said on Saturday.

A security official, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News hundreds of militants stormed the police posts in Pirokoti area on Friday night.

He said two posts were lost, four policemen killed and two others wounded in the incident. Another post is under assault but reinforcements are yet to arrive, according to the source.

But Mohammad Rahman Ayaz, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the loss of only one post to the insurgents. He said one policeman was killed. The area is currently under the Afghan forces control.

A number of militants were also killed or wounded in retaliatory action by the security forces , the gubernatorial spokesman said, without knowing exact figures.

Ahmad Gul, a resident of the district, claimed seeing the bodies of four policemen and clashes were still underway.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed capturing three police posts, killing four policemen and wounding seven others during the ongoing clash in Orgun.
