KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The US has reiterated support for the success and implementation of the historic peace agreement between the Afghan government and the Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon Afghanistaninfo-icon (HIA).

At a meeting with HIA chief Gulbadin Hekmatyar on September 26, Ambassador Hugo Llorens -- special chargé d’affaires at the US embassy here, called for an inclusive peace process led by the Afghan government and people.

In a statement on Wednesday, Llorens welcomed Hekmatyar’s stated commitment to peace and democracy and emphasised the importance of respect for human rights, constitutional norms and freedom of expression in maintaining stability.

"The two agreed that credible, inclusive, and transparent elections are crucial to achieving the shared objective of peace and prosperity for Afghans of all regions and ethnicities," the statement added.
