22 dead in suicide attack on Balochistan shrine

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Twenty-two people have been killed and more than 30 others injured in a suicide attack on a shrine in Pakistaninfo-icon's southwestern Balochistan province.
The suicide bombing rocked Dargah Pir Rakhel Shah in Fatehpur, a small town in Jhal Magsi district Thursday night, local official Aurangzaib Magsi told reporters.
The dead included at least three children and a police constable, the district administrator. The casualties were evacuated to Gandawah and District Headquarters Hospitals.
Deputy Commissioner Asadullah Kakar said the bomber struck outside the shrine at a time when it was packed with devotees, attending anniversary celebrations of Cheesal Shah.
Home Secretary Akbar Harifal said the blew himself up after being stopped by police outside the shrine. The critically injured people were airlifted to hospitals in neighbouring Sindh province.
As forensic experts collected evidence, security forces initiated a search operation in the area.  The explosion took place when the dhamaal was being performed after evening prayers.
At least 35 people were killed and many injured on March 19, 2005, when a suicide bomber attacked the same shrine. The dead included devotees from different sects.
