Bid to smuggle 2,500 years old book thwarted in Wardak

Oct 06, 2017 - 14:38

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Police in central Maidan Wardak province on Friday claimed foiling the smuggling of a rare book believed to have been authored about 2,500 years ago.
Police spokesman Naqibullah Amni told Pajhwok Afghan News the book was seized from a Kabul-bound car in the Ona Kotal area of Behsud district on Thursday.
He believed the Sanskrit-language book -- written on hareskin -- was about 2,500 years old. It was being smuggled from Bamyan province to Kabul through Wardak.
At least three individuals have been arrested in connection with the botched smuggling attempt. Amni said the detainees had been referred to prosecutors.
